HISTORIC CASTLES TOUR
All registered companions are invited to enjoy two of Victoria's grand & historic original residences, Hatley and Craigdarroch Castles. The first stop is Hatley Castle, the newer of the two castles, with its surrounding gardens & seaside views. Constructed in 1912 by James Dunsmuir, Hatley Castle is a stunning example of the early grand residences built in the Victoria area. Set amongst huge evergreens on generous grounds that slope down to the ocean, the castle boasts a stunning view of the Olympic Mountains in Washington State. The castle's gardens are extensive and lovely and traversed by many a flower-munching deer!

Following a lunch at Bear Mountain Resort, it's on to Craigdarroch Castle, located in the historic Rockland area, an upscale residential area where the wealthy settlers lived. Built in the 1890's by another of the Dunsmuir family, wealthy coal baron Robert Dunsmuir, this castle comprises over 20,000 square feet of lovingly restored rooms, furnished lavishly in the 1890s-1900s period. It is a step back in time to the lives of the colonial rich and famous!

While this activity is included in the spousal/companion's registration package, you must still register and confirm your participation in this organized activity (see registration form).

Subject to availability, additional delegates may participate in this activity at a cost of $80 + GST per person. Please contact Lynn Perrault (lynnp@cca-acc.com) at CCA to register.

ORGANIZED TOUR OPTION 1
Visit to Butchart Gardens with Tasting at a Local Winery

This excursion begins with a scenic drive through the city of Victoria. The Inner Harbour, Chinatown, Olde Town and lovely oceanfront Marine Drive are just a taste of what you will see! Then, it's on to the world-famous Butchart Gardens. These incredible gardens offer 55 acres of year-round beauty. They began in 1904 with the desire of the Butchart family to beautify the site of a worked-out quarry on their 130-acre estate. Their endeavor has become a family commitment to horticulture and hospitality spanning over 103 years and continues to delight visitors from around the world.

Having strolled the Gardens and peeked into the Gift Shop, it's time to leave Butchart Gardens, arriving only moments later at the Church & State Winery. Under the direction of master winemaker, Bill Dyer, Church & State's goal is to be ranked one of the top five wineries in British Columbia as they strive to produce only premium and super premium wines using traditional winemaking methods and techniques. The Winery is set on a 25-acre estate with views of the Valley and the Ocean beyond. Industrial meets sophistication in the exquisitely designed building utilizing the perfect combination of natural fibres and timbers, metals and concrete, with large windows and doorways that will lead you to a wrap-around deck overlooking the vineyard. Participants will be invited to enjoy a special wine tasting before making their way back to the hotel.

Fees: $75 (tax incl.) per person
*This tour will be ending with a wonderful afternoon tea in the elegant tea room at the Fairmont Empress.
