Confidence among Canada's exporters has generally been strong in the post-recession period. It suffered a multi-survey plunge well ahead of the recession, but by the fall of 2009 had climbed above previous peak levels. It floated in that upbeat zone for four successive surveys, but sunk back into recession territory last fall. Thankfully, this tumble was short-lived – the Index is right back to where it was a year ago, a level that's consistent with very decent growth in export activity. Read more
The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) was very happy to see Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s announcement today of a new partnership with Michigan to build a second bridge in the Windsor-Detroit transportation corridor. "Today's announcement shows the Government of Canada recognizes the importance and significance of new infrastructure as it relates to the Canadian economy," said Michael Atkinson, president of the CCA. "Transportation corridors such as Windsor/Detroit help to transport millions of dollars in goods between Canada and the U.S., and construction of these projects not only provides economic stimulus during the project, but ensures a reliable and efficient infrastructure system exists to maintain a strong Canadian economy." The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Canada has released its Infrastructure Investment Report for 2012-13, detailing opportunities for the consulting engineering companies. The report is an extension of a document that was initially prepared for the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies-Canada (ACEC) in 2010The report also contains a short analysis of the Government of Canada’s infrastructure spending plans as referenced in Budget 2012.
