CCA WELCOMES THE LATEST CAF REPORT ON APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING
OTTAWA, July 8, 2009 - The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) welcomes the recent release of the study by the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF) titled It Pays to Hire an Apprentice: Calculating the Return on Training Investment for Skilled Trades Employers in Canada which provides further proof that an investment in skills training yields substantial benefits for employers.
CCA Chairman, Brad Greene, said, “this report proves hiring an apprentice in the construction industry provides employers with a significant rate of return on skills development investments.”
According to the study, employers receive a benefit, on average, of $1.47 for every dollar invested in training. This is a significant benefit and a 9 cent increase from the previous figure included in the 2006 CAF report.
“Given the lower demand for construction services due to the downturn in the economy, now is the right time for the sector to invest in skills development and training so as to ensure that when the economy recovers, the industry is well equipped to meet the anticipated growing demands for construction services in the years ahead,” said Greene.
