That philosophy didn’t just guide EllisDon. It transformed it.

For four decades, Geoff Smith has shaped not only one of Canada’s most influential construction companies, but the very definition of leadership.

Geoff Smith’s leadership has been recognized with some of the industry’s highest honours, including the Jock Tindale Award for Integrity, EY’s Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year, the Donald P. Giffin, Sr. Construction Industry Achievement Award, and an Honorary Honours Bachelor of Technology.

He has championed fairness through the creation of EllisDon’s Subcontractors Bill of Rights— setting a clear, uncompromising standard for respect across the industry and proving that trust, transparency, and integrity are not soft values, but powerful drivers of performance, resilience, and long-term success.

Beyond EllisDon, Geoff’s leadership has shaped education, healthcare, innovation, sustainability, and the arts. In 2025, Geoff was presented with the Toronto Region Builder Award, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and volunteerism to make the Toronto region a better place to live, work, and learn.
