Glace Bay Police Station

On March 5, 2020, the Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) hosted a Tell Me About Gold Seal information luncheon at Talo Café in Glace Bay to celebrate CANS most recently awarded Gold Seal Project, the Glace Bay Police Station, designed by Lindsay Construction Ltd.

Project Manager, Chris Davison from Lindsay Construction, shared a few words on why, after over twenty years combined industrial/commercial/residential experience , he is now pursuing the Gold Seal Designation. Chris had explored similar designations in the past, such as PMP, but he said this is the first designation that he has seen that is so specific to construction and has recognized that the GSC is the highest standard of excellence in the construction industry. Chris is currently on the pathway to GSC, with only a few credits remaining. He should be eligible to challenge his exam in October of 2020.

Lindsay Construction Ltd. has been awarded the tender for the design of the new Glace Bay Police Station. The scope of work associated with this project includes the development of a police facility that addresses all architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and security requirements as well as all site services, access, parking and landscaping requirements.

April 22, 2020 – The Glace Bay Police Station is an 8000 sq. ft. ICF building with a wood-frame roof, 12’ high ICF walls, placed in a single pour. Tapestry Red Shaw Brick façade with dark accents wrap around the exterior.

Lindsay Construction provided an aggressive 38-week schedule, likely to wrap in 44, well inside the one year contract. Lindsay Construction has been working with B. Curry & Sons on the civil side, Lynk Group for M&E components, Apollo Masonry, Dominion Drywall, B&K Painting, John McLean Ceramic, B&L Elite Millwork, Cape Breton Glass, 7 Signs, and local vendors for the successful completion of the project.

The building is weathertight and they are nearing completion of the M&E rough-ins. Drywall is complete and paint and flooring installations are nearing completion. Building commissioning will commence on May 4, 2020. Springtime landscaping and line to complete once the weather breaks.
