CCDC design-build seminars return this fall

Missed the spring sessions? They’re back by popular demand.

CCDC seminars on progressive and traditional design-build contracts are returning this fall, with four-hour sessions taking place in six Canadian cities.

Whether you’re an owner, contractor, consultant or other construction professional, these seminars offer a practical opportunity to understand the latest CCDC design-build documents, how they work together, and what they mean for your projects.

Learn from the experts behind the documents

Presented by CCDC document authors, these seminars offer a unique opportunity to understand not only the provisions in the contracts, but how they are intended to work in practice. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight directly from the experts.

The program will explore:

• Progressive design-build (CCDC 32):
  What progressive design-build is, why owners are turning to it, and how it differs from traditional design-build. Topics include the project development and design/construction phases, roles and risks of each party, and key concepts such as project gates, early works, off-ramps, and the Final Project Proposal.
• Traditional design-build (CCDC 14):
  The benefits and challenges of traditional design-build, roles and responsibilities of the parties, key risk and insurance considerations, and important changes in the updated contract.
• Design-build service agreements (CCDC 15 and 33):
  Payment provisions, services, flow-down provisions, and the differences between traditional and progressive design-build service agreements.
• Key changes from CCDC 2 – 2020:
  Important updates now incorporated into the design-build contracts, including Ready-for-Takeover, substantial performance, and prompt payment provisions.

Continuing education and registration

Each four-hour seminar will be accredited by a range of professional organizations, including Gold Seal, Alberta Association of Architects (AAA), Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC), Nova Scotia Association of Architects (NSAA), Ordres des architectes du Québec (OAQ), Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) and Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO), and qualifies as or meets the criteria for structured learning for the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA).

Additional accreditation is being pursued.
