Introduction:

The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) is looking for a highly skilled and deadline-driven Translator to join our dynamic Marketing and Communications team. The ideal candidate is bilingual (English/French), with exceptional written communication skills and a keen understanding of cultural and linguistic nuances in both official languages. This role is essential in ensuring the consistent and accurate delivery of CCA’s messaging and brand. The successful candidate will have strong expertise in translation and revision—with a sharp eye for grammar, clarity, tone, and style—as well as a demonstrated passion for plain language and effective communication. In addition to translation work, this individual will be a skilled French writer and communicator, contributing to bilingual marketing campaigns and other public facing materials. This is an ideal role for someone who is proficient in translating content while also interested in collaborating on the development of compelling, audience-focused messaging in both English and French.

CCA is the national voice for Canada’s construction industry, giving voice to the public policy, legal and standards development goals of contractors, suppliers and allied business professionals working in, or with, our industry.

Responsibilities:

Position: Translator

Reports to: Manager, Communications

Key responsibilities:

  • Translate a wide variety of content in different formats (e.g., briefs, memos, press releases, reports, presentations, charts, website content, articles, social media posts, and internal communications) from English to French, and occasionally from French to English.
  • Ensure consistency in terminology, tone, and branding across all translated materials.
  • Proofread content in its final form to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to maintain CCA’s voice and messaging across both official languages.
  • Support the development and execution of bilingual campaigns, events, and initiatives.
  • Create and maintain a bilingual terminology glossary.
  • Assist with French-language copywriting of original content as needed.
  • Meet established translation deadlines.
  • Respond to queries from staff on French grammar, style, and tone of voice.
  • Stay up to date on construction terminology.
  • Manage translation suppliers if needed.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in both French and English is required..
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Translation, Linguistics, French, Communications, or a related field – or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of professional translation experience, preferably in a communications, marketing, or public affairs context..
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (including SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry or association environment is an asset.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g. Asana) considered an asset.

Salary range:

  • $58,000 to $68,000 annually.
  • Compensation is to be determined at the time of hiring, based on the successful candidate’s experience and profile.
