Ronald McDonald House

As the proud builder of the new Ronald McDonald House in Halifax, rcs construction led the delivery of a transformational project that will serve thousands of Maritime families for decades to come. Since 1982, Ronald McDonald House Charities Atlantic has supported over 28,000 families with sick or injured children receiving treatment in Halifax. With growing need and only 18 bedrooms in the original house, the organization partnered with rcs construction to build a larger, modern facility just steps from the IWK Health Centre.

The result is a beautifully crafted, 40,000 sq. ft. home-away-from-home with 36 family suites—doubling previous capacity—including four specially designed two-bedroom units with in-suite kitchens for immune-compromised patients. rcs construction worked closely with Lydon Lynch and Montgomery Sisam Architects to ensure the final build met both technical and emotional needs, creating an inviting and comforting space that blends thoughtful design with exceptional functionality.

The project includes community-centered features like a shared kitchen, lounge areas, indoor play zones, and a one-of-a-kind Magic Room—a whimsical, imaginative escape created to delight young residents and their families.

Future readiness and sustainability were embedded from day one. The rcs construction team built the west wing to support a second tower of suites down the line. The house is also targeting net-zero energy through the integration of rooftop solar panels and a geothermal system powered by 20 boreholes. With accessibility as a core value, the facility is pending Rick Hansen Foundation certification.

This project stands as a testament to rcs construction’s commitment to building spaces that matter—with purpose, precision, and heart.

rcs construction is a proud supporter of the Gold Seal Certification Program, and this project is recognized as an official Gold Seal Project.
