Introduction:
The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) is the national voice for Canada’s construction industry, representing an industry that employs close to 1.6 million Canadians and contributes approximately 7.4% of Canada’s GDP.
Reporting to the Vice President, Communications, Marketing and Member Services, the Director, Member Services and Growth provides strategic leadership for CCA’s member engagement, education, certification, sponsorship, programs, services, and innovation portfolio.
The Director is responsible for strengthening CCA’s member value proposition, increasing participation across its programs and services, cultivating strategic and commercial partnerships and identifying new opportunities that respond to the evolving needs of Canada’s construction industry.
Working closely with CCA’s partner associations, corporate members and internal teams, the Director leads the development of sustainable programs, services and partnerships that deliver measurable member and industry value. The Director also leads CCA’s national sponsorship program, from opportunity development and relationship cultivation through negotiation, activation oversight and renewal.
The successful candidate is an entrepreneurial and collaborative leader who combines strategic thinking, business-development capability and operational discipline. Responsibilities:
Portfolio operations and growth
- Develop and execute an integrated strategy for CCA’s member engagement, education, certification, sponsorship, programs and services portfolio.
- Provide strategic oversight of CCA’s member programs, products and industry services.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen CCA’s value proposition, expand participation and increase the reach and impact of its offerings.
- Analyze member needs, industry trends, program data and market opportunities to inform portfolio priorities.
- Develop business cases for new programs, services, partnerships and delivery models.
- Evaluate existing offerings and recommend investments, improvements, repositioning or discontinuation.
- Ensure portfolio priorities align with CCA’s strategic plan and the needs of members, partner associations and the broader construction industry.
Member engagement and partnerships
- Develop strategies to increase member engagement, participation, satisfaction and retention.
- Provide strategic oversight of CCA’s relationships with integrated partner associations and corporate members.
- Support the Manager, Member Engagement in developing coordinated relationship, engagement, onboarding and stewardship practices.
- Cultivate senior-level relationships with key member organizations and strategic partners.
- Identify opportunities to connect members with CCA’s programs, services, education, events, advocacy and volunteer leadership.
- Strengthen CCA’s member value proposition and ensure it is clearly demonstrated across member segments.
Education and professional development
- Provide strategic leadership for CCA’s education and professional development portfolio.
- Identify opportunities to expand educational offerings in response to emerging industry and workforce needs.
- Assess potential education partners, subject-matter experts, licensing opportunities and delivery models.
- Establish expectations for program quality, relevance, accessibility and financial sustainability.
- Monitor participation, satisfaction, market demand and program performance.
- Support the Assistant Manager in prioritizing and improving education offerings.
Gold Seal Certification
- Provide strategic oversight and direction for the Gold Seal Certification program.
- Develop initiatives to increase awareness, participation, employer adoption and certification.
- Lead the strategic modernization of the certification experience, systems and program model.
- Maintain senior relationships with partner associations, employers and industry stakeholders connected to Gold Seal.
- Support the Gold Seal Committee and ensure that significant recommendations and decisions align with CCA’s broader strategy.
- Ensure appropriate policies and controls protect the integrity and reputation of the certification.
Ensure the program remains credible, relevant and aligned with the evolving needs of construction professionals and employers.
Sponsorship and business development
- Lead CCA’s national sponsorship program across conferences, symposiums, Hill Day and strategic initiatives.
- Develop annual sponsorship strategies, targets, inventories and partnership propositions.
- Identify, qualify and cultivate prospective sponsors and strategic partners.
- Lead sponsor outreach, presentations, proposals, negotiations and agreements.
- Maintain a current sponsorship pipeline and provide regular forecasts and progress reports.
- Work with the Vice President on high-value prospects, negotiations and senior partner relationships.
- Collaborate with Events and Marketing to ensure sponsorship opportunities are deliverable, compelling and aligned with partner objectives.
- Oversee sponsor stewardship, activation, performance reporting, renewal and expansion.
- Identify opportunities to develop year-round partnerships extending beyond individual events.
Financial and performance management
- Develop and manage portfolio plans, budgets, forecasts and performance targets.
- Monitor revenue, expenditures, participation, sponsorship pipeline and program sustainability.
- Recommend pricing, investment and resource-allocation decisions.
- Establish key performance indicators for member engagement, program participation, education, certification, sponsorship and growth.
- Use data and feedback to identify risks and opportunities and guide decisions.
- Prepare reports, recommendations and business cases for the executive team and Board.
Team leadership
- Lead and develop the Manager, Member Services and Assistant Manager, Gold Seal and Education.
- Establish clear roles, annual priorities, objectives and performance expectations.
- Balance strategic priorities with operational capacity and service requirements.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, innovative and member-focused culture.
- Support professional development, cross-training and business continuity.
- Ensure effective collaboration with Marketing, Communications, Public Affairs, Events, Digital Solutions and Finance.
Stakeholder engagement
- Represent CCA at meetings, conferences and industry events.
- Build trusted relationships with partner associations, members, volunteers, committees, sponsors and industry partners.
- Oversee appropriate support for committees and working groups connected to the portfolio.
- Ensure stakeholder feedback, decisions and commitments are documented and acted upon.
Qualifications
Experience
- Degree in Business Administration, Association Management, Marketing, Education or a related discipline.
- 8–10 years of progressive leadership experience in association management, membership, education, business development, product management or a related field.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex portfolios.
- Experience developing and delivering member-focused programs, services or educational initiatives.
- Experience managing budgets, strategic initiatives and organizational priorities.
- Experience building partnerships and working with volunteers, committees and external stakeholders.

Salary range
